Thank you for taking the time to write me! And thank you for your compliment. Though it made me reflective— I sometimes wish that I received compliments on my mind more often than my appearance. I sometimes feel I have to use the latter to gain people’s interest in the former. It feels a lot like a balancing act, like a show of sorts, “but wait, the face has powerful things to say!” I suppose a secret of mine is that, as flattering as it is to be desired… I wish I was desired more for what makes me who I am, rather than the features that make my body… for my writing especially. I feel I have a lot of power in my language and my thoughts and it’s so much harder for people to recognize, acknowledge, and treasure that.
